History of Modular Mold Systems

Pleasant Precision, Inc., the parent company of Modular Mold Systems, was established in 1977 by Ron Pleasant. Pleasant Precision, Inc. is a skilled tool & die shop with two distinctly different divisions, custom moldmaking and distribution of Round Mate, a moldmaking system.
Round Mate, our first “Round” interchangeable insert system was invented, developed and patented by Pleasant Precision in 1987, as

a means to maximize our running time on our CNC machines. During this time the industries trend for quicker, cheaper molds began. Ron came up with the idea of building a pre-machined base with cooling and ejection to decrease time in production and at the same time keep quality and increase profit.

Pleasant Precision, Inc. builds small close tolerance cores and cavities, keeping that in mind Round Mate first came to life. The first frame was a success reducing design time and tooling cost by as much as 30-40%, reduced delivery time by 2-3 weeks with a bonus of reducing press change over time to just 10 minutes.

Still true today, these features are responsible for its popularity world wide, serving several well known Fortune 500 companies.

In the first 3 years following the introduction of Round Mate only 9 systems were sold. At that time it was obvious that if Round Mate were to be successful in the plastic industry it would be necessary for Pleasant Precision to provide funding for a sales and marketing team. That commitment was made in July of 1989.

In the next two years Round Mate sold over 40 systems and signed a contract with DME for overseas sales representation, with an agreement for additional domestic sales. For 6 years Pleasant Precision remained aligned with DME. Pleasant Precision finally dedicated an in-house sales group to sell the Round Mate System. Round Mate grew so quickly that Pleasant Precision hired personnel to handle all the necessary requests from customers.

In 1997 at the National Plastics Exposition we introduced our second interchangeable system, Systems 2. Systems 2 was designed to provide more real estate for producing larger parts. The concept of Systems 2 was exactly the same as the Round Mate except for its rectangular shape. Systems 2, to this point, has been a popular system for the medical and electronics industries.

Since the introduction of Round Mate in 1987, our suite of products have evolved to be more than just “Round.” This has forced Round Mate, a product of Pleasant Precision, Inc. to establish a true identity. Pleasant Precision has now introduced Modular Mold Systems, a new company, to best represent our product lines in the plastics industry.
